Existing management (baits stations and traps) operates over some 800ha across 3 sites south west of Katikati (mix of DOC estate, private land and council reserve). Predator Free Katikati is focused on the urban area of Katikati township. This work is undertaken by community groups with support from DOC, District & Regional Council and various charitable trusts including Aongatete Forest Project and Uretara Estuary Managers.Aongatete Forest Project has established a 500 hectare network of rat, possum and mustelid control in the Conservation Park on the eastern side of the range. The Department of Conservation also carries out goat control. New funding from BOPRC/DOC/WRC will also be used for increased goat control in this area over 2022-2025.
